History of implementation

Our first experience of ‘Apreciando lo Nuestro’ in Honduras was the result of team work among STRO and World Vision Honduras. It started as a pilot project on 2008, which went through two extension phases in 2009 and 2010 with the financial support of PSO. STRO managed knowledge transfer, and continuous quality assessments, while WVH undertook coordination of operations in the field. Adaptation and innovation within the honduran context took place. WVH has proven a new way of performing social intervention, realizing the importance of bottom up approaches to reach empowerment and sustainability.

Learning process

Being an innovative approach, communication between STRO and WVH teams had to be very fluent, using many training sessions, a variety of documentation tools and monthly learning exchanges. The ‘golden rule’ was to experience, adapt and share.

Main Results :

Awareness generation: The practical ability of the tools, used in the community workshops, effectively generates positive changes in the behaviour of economic agents. The reflective process triggers a shift from external consumerism towards local mobilization of resources. A quantitative summary indicates, after 2.5 years of implementation of the project: 181 community workshops, 4579 participants (65% women).

Coaching for regeneration : The "assets-based approach" through coaching techniques, means letting the person define its own path to local economic development. There is a strong focus on the available resources and how they could be used to reach own goals and dreams. The hypothesis is: local entrepreneurship development will stimulate local market diversification, making local consumption feasible. A quantitaive summary indicates, after 2.5 years of implementation of the project: 374 coaching clients, 866 coaching sessions and 147 implemented ideas, from which 90% succeeded by movilizing already existing local resources.
